National Register of Big Trees
There's only one place to find all the largest known specimens of 826 native and naturalized trees in the United States: The National Register of Big Trees!
Urban Forests
We have developed a process called Regional Ecosystem Analysis (REA), which uses a combination of satellite data, field surveys, CITYgreen software and other Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to measure a region's or city's tree canopy and calculate its dollar worth.
Forest Policy
The Forest Policy Center continues the rich policy tradition of AMERICAN FORESTS as a national citizens conservation group that advocates for the restoration and maintenance of healthy forest ecosystems. We serve as a voice of moderation on forest policy issues, encouraging civil dialogue, open inclusive process, and collaborative action.
Sprawl Information
American Forests has spent more than 20 years researching the condition of our urban and suburban forests. Our work in the Puget Sound, Atlanta, and Chesapeake Bay regions has revealed a stark fact: The heavy tree canopy in all these areas has declined by more than one-third in just twenty five years.
Historic Tree Nursery
Our Historic Tree Nursery is nationally recognized as the innovator in the propagation of authentic historic trees.
Environmental Education
Trees provide many environmental health benefits. Using GIS (Geographic Information System) software and CITYgreen, students can calculate the benefits of their community trees. American Forests has developed methods to help you learn GIS and start using it in your classroom.
Resources for Kids
An educational and entertaining interactive site that uses cartoon characters to focus on trees for kids prek-6th grade with lesson plans for teachers and conservation activities for families.
